Chair's Report: Local Place Plan

Updated: Sep 23

From Penelope Fraser

During 2023 and 2024 the Royal Burgh of St Andrews Community Council have been seeking your views about how St Andrews should improve from 2027 to 2037. This is part of Fife Council’s ongoing work to develop a Local Development Plan (LDP) for Fife for the same period.

Our Local Place Plan (LPP) is one of many LPPs which have been submitted by Community Councils across Fife and across Scotland.

We have conducted surveys in various locations in town as well as online and have held focus groups to gather views about the town, both positive and negative. Schools, university students, residents and visitors of all ages have contributed. Local businesses and organisations have also had the opportunity to voice their opinions.

An extract from St Andrews LPP: “From the start we have emphasised that we want to invest in the natural and heritage assets we have, and in the streetscape we are proud of, to make this a better place, rather than find the problems. We believe we have done that and are presenting a plan that is positive and inclusive. It is not a speculative wish list, but a thoughtful plan with fundable and sustainable projects.”

This has culminated in the St Andrews Local Place Plan document being submitted to, and accepted by, Fife Council. Thus, your views will be included in the Fife LDP policy document.

As part of our community engagement, to aid dissemination of our results, a shorter flyer is available online. There are six main themes in our report. For more information, please see our website: standrewcommunitycouncil.co.uk

Of course there will be differing opinions about what has been included, what has been omitted (but not forgotten), what is initial priority and what will be undertaken subsequently.

If you wish to contact us with your views, please send an email to rbstacc@gmail.com or lpp@standrewscommunitycouncil.org

Best wishes to you all,

Penelope Fraser

Chair of St Andrews Community Council

Provost of St Andrews
